Malloy proposes more Conn. agency consolidations

HARTFORD, Conn. —

Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is proposing consolidation of more state agencies, building upon the mergers and consolidations he recommended last year.

The Democratic governor is calling for seven more changes, reducing the number of budgeted state agencies from 59 to 52. There were originally 81 separate agencies of varying sizes when Malloy started his consolidations last year.

On Friday, Malloy suggested merging the University of Connecticut Health Center and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner into the University of Connecticut. He also recommended merging the Department of Construction Services, which is formerly the Department of Public Works, into the Department of Administrative Services.

Malloy is expected to release details of his latest proposals next month, when he submits legislation for the new session of the General Assembly.
